Description

Game Oven, with the Dutch National Ballet · 2014 (iOS, Android)

Two players each take one end of a single phone and hold on for the length of the dance. Tilting the phone rotates a sphere on its screen, and a path of rings has to be picked up one by one by lining each up with a crosshair at the centre. Because neither player can let go, and because the rings are placed so that the phone must travel around and between them, the only way through is for both to move their arms and turn their bodies — the studio’s description is that “before you know it, you are already dancing.”

Eight dances ship with the game: four by Game Oven, designed to get two people entangled, and four choreographed by Ernst Meisner of the Dutch National Ballet, with tutorial videos danced by company members. The music is a composed soundtrack by Bart Delissen, playing under the dance rather than being produced by it.
