Description
Nintendo · 2008 (Wii)
Up to four players hold a Wii Remote and Nunchuk and mime playing an instrument — strumming, drumming, bowing, blowing — while the game supplies the notes. There are 66 instruments and six parts to a song: two percussion, rhythm, chord, melody, harmony and bass. Timing and pitch are fitted to the piece as it runs, so nothing a player does produces a wrong note.
There is no score, no failure state and no progression to defend. A session can be recorded and played back, and the players’ Miis perform it. Reviewers at the time split along exactly this line: released into a market shaped by Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the game was read either as an instrument for people who cannot play one or as a rhythm game with the challenge removed.
