Ciciliani, 2017 · via Lüneburg / GAPPP (2018)
What it says
In an interactive or performed work, the thing that speaks is not the author. It is the entire setup: composer, performer, audience, hardware, software, room, and the relations between them. Authorship is a property of the arrangement rather than of a person in it.
Does it hold for my work
It answers a question interactive work always attracts and that I have never had a good response to: who made this, if the audience determines what happens?
It also does the job I would otherwise need Barad for, at a fraction of the theoretical weight, and in a vocabulary a design or music audience already accepts. If I can make the argument here, I do not need the ontology.
Under v4
It becomes more relevant, not less. v4 asks how strangers construct meaning together — which is a claim that meaning is produced by the arrangement rather than delivered by the author. That is this concept, applied to the audience side.
Status
Conditional only because it activates if the thesis discusses authorship at all, and I have not decided whether that is a chapter or a sentence. Ciciliani 2017 is on the follow-up reading list and has not been read directly.
